History

As the first large, modern shopping center in Rhode Island, Warwick Mall opened in 1970. It began as a family-owned business and remains that way today. Undergoing a complete makeover in 1990, Warwick Mall introduced its Food Court.

When the mall’s owners started talking about renovating the mall in the late 2000s, little did they know what Mother Nature had in store in for them. In March 2010, Rhode Island and most of southern New England was overwhelmed by what many called a hundred-year rain. News footage and photographs of the mall’s parking lots engulfed in water were seen across the country and across the world. But the mall’s owners didn’t waste a second, because they knew that Warwick Mall was more than just a mall–it’s an institution that has become a part of Rhode Island history.

So the owners knew the day the rain stopped falling was the first day to start the process of reopening. But not only just reopening. Redesigning. Remodeling. Reinvigorating. Reinvesting. The marching orders were summed up in one word–wow.

Celebrating its 40th birthday, as well as its Grand Re-Opening in October 2010, Warwick Mall has once again opened its doors to the community. Along with the return of their favorite retailers and new tenants making the mall their home, guests can also enjoy the Food Court’s new video wall and hand washing stations, soft seating areas, renovated restrooms, a restored carousel, bright concourses and much more.
